Monster Cookies

I started making monster cookies when we were building our house. I baked for my builders all the time, and they loved Monster cookies, so I decided to try them out. I tried 3 or 4 different recipes and never really loved any of them, so I made up my own version to make the cookie that my family and the builders loved!

I decorated them with Green and White M&Ms for Michigan State graduation. Party City carries all different colors of M&Ms or you can order them on line. I mixed half in the dough before baking and when they came out of the oven, I used the other half to decorate the cookies.

The little ones next to them are Nestle Toll House chocolate chip.

Monster Cookies created for the builders when we were building DLH

2 sticks (1/2 pound) salted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup white sugar  2 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour  1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder  1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cup oats (either quick or regular)
1 1/2 cup chocolate coated candies, such as M&M’s  3/4 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
3/4 mini chocolate chips
3/4 butterscotch chips

Directions:
1 Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line 3 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
2 Cream the butter with both sugars until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla and beat.
3 Combine the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Add to the mixing bowl and mix until just combined. After that, add all the extras – you can add what you what want and how much you want. (Listed above are what my family likes.) Do not over mix!
4 Use a cookie scoop to scoop big balls of dough onto the cookie sheets . Refrigerate the dough balls until chilled through and firm, at least 30 minutes and up to 1 hour. Bake until golden brown, about 12-14 minutes, and then allow to cool on a rack.  Enjoy!
